This week’s Scripture readings: We will focus on readings regarding Pentecost and the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives as Christians.
You are always welcome to join us for upper school chapel services on Thursdays at 11:20 am in the chapel.
Hymns in Focus for Pentecost: Spirit of the Living God, Fall Fresh on Me
Season of the Church Year: We are “skipping” ahead a few weeks on the Church Calendar to the celebration of Pentecost when God sent his Holy Spirit to his church so they would be empowered to take his love and his gospel to the world.
Thursday, March 17: We will mark as a school community the beginning of the Lenten season with a special service of readings and music led my Live Oak teachers and students.
ThWeursday, March 24: We continue our Lenten worship. This week we will focus on our Christian hero of the past for this month, C. S. Lewis. We will use a clip from the movie of his classic children’s novel The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, as we consider the meaning of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross as we consider Romans 5:1-11.
Thursday, March 31: We continue our look at the life of C.S. Lewis, this time focusing on the scene in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe where the White Witch gives Edmund endless helpings of his favorite candy, Turkish Delight. We used the White Witch’s haunting question, “What do you want?” to help us examine what we desire and pursue that might eclipse our desire for Christ.
Thursday, April 7: Students and teachers will read dramatically the stories of Ezekiel and the Valley of Dry Bones, and Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. We will have a time to reflect and write on journal pages as we consider those areas in our own lives that look more like dead men’s bones than the new abundant life Christ intends for us.
Thursday, April 14: Day of family service….no school for students.
Thursday, April 21: All-school Pedilavium Service, where we wash each other’s feet as we consider Jesus’ act of service for his disciples in John 13 on the night he was arrested.
Thursday, April 28: We will bring back out the “alleluia” songs in praise of our risen Savior! Joe Padilla, father of Sarah and Kate Padilla, will lead us in our homily this week.
Thursday, May 5: We continue to celebrate the season of Easter and our risen Lord together. Mr. Georgas will lead us in our homily this week. Our new litany is: He Is Risen……He Is Risen, Indeed!
Thursday, May 12: No chapel due to the Classic Track Meet
Thursday, May 19: Pentecost chapel with special guest worship leaders Brett and Emily Mills, and a team of students to help with our music, responsive litanies, and Scripture readings.
Week of May 23: School wide chapel is Tuesday, Circling of the Green. We will also worship together on Thursday night as we celebrate our first high school graduate, Sean Lambert, in a Baccalaureate service. All are welcome.
