May 26—Last Day of School (Early Release at 12:00 pm)—We will be having our End of Year class party in the morning. Please join us if you can!
*Please check to see if you have any library books or readers at home and return them by Thursday.
Spelling: We will continue to practice phonograms daily, both orally and written. We will continue to review the spelling rules we have learned throughout the year. We will work with the individual sounds of words and with syllables.
Grammar/Literature: In grammar, we will be reviewing the sentence structure of declarative, interrogative, and exclamatory sentences. We will be reviewing nouns as persons, places, things, and ideas, and also as proper and common. In literature, we will be discussing narrative writing, informative writing, and informative-narrative writing, and comparing these types of literature. This week we will be reviewing the five mental actions (checking for understanding, making connections, predicting, reformatting, and mentally summarizing) and identifying the attributes of quality literature in selections from the library.
Unit Study: This week we will conclude our discussion of the Great Barrier Reef. We will be learning about the different types of life in and around the reef. This week we will focus on the sea horse. We will continue working on our 3-D replica of the reef. This week we will be making water colored sea horses and working on any projects that have not yet been completed.
Math: In math, we will continue Chapter 12: Numbers to 100. We will work with counting to one hundred by ones, using a hundreds chart, and identifying patterns on the hundreds chart. We will be skip counting by fives, tens and twos, and discussing even and odd numbers. We will further these learning objectives through the use of manipulatives and hands-on activities.
Nature Study: This week, we will learn about spiders. We will learn that spiders are not insects. We will discuss that spiders are arachnids, come from the phylum arthropoda, and have eight legs. We will post a photograph of a spider on our nature wall under a new column. We will also be drawing a spider in our nature notebook.
Bible: This week, we will be reading the story of “Jonah and the Big Fish.” Please read this story at home with your child, and have them narrate the story back to you.
Show and Tell: We will not be having show and tell this week.
Have a wonderful week!
