Live Oak Classical School was conceived as a relaxed classical school where full-time and home schooled students can participate together in elective classes and activities. Out of a desire to enhance the opportunities of home schooled students of Central Texas, Live Oak offers academic classes and other school activities for students whose primary education occurs in the home.
Live Oak Classical School will offer Encore status to students in grades one through three based on a T/TH schedule in Grammar School. Those students may enroll in the T/TH elective block as a supplement to home education.* Elective studies offered in 2010-2011 are science/nature studies, Spanish, art/art history, music/music history, and physical education. These biweekly classes will be structured around a syllabus given to the parents. Students will be required to complete the outside assignments included in the syllabus. Other electives may be added as opportunities arise. Encore students are encouraged to attend chapel, which is held weekly, to engage in worship and to gain more appreciation for the history of the Christian church. Logic School students must individually determine their schedule with the school.
Students who wish to enroll in the elective classes will need to apply and go through the regular admission process. This admission process is intended to help us find families who are excited about our mission and students who would be well served by Live Oak’s classical curriculum.
When a student is enrolled in the Encore classes he/she will be asked to wear a shirt from the school uniform selections. Our intent is to foster a sense of community and avoid comparisons among students by requiring a uniform.
Encore students will have the opportunity to participate in such activities as a “Living History” fair and a Literary festival, as well as recitation assemblies and other special events at Live Oak. The social events and outdoor adventures will also be available for the families of elective students.
*Any student who is enrolled on a part time basis is expected to be receiving additional coursework under parental supervision. Part time enrollment at Live Oak does not represent a complete and thorough education.
