For The Glory Of God A distinctive Christ-centered education

Athletics

The purpose of the Athletic Program is to provide students with opportunities for interscholastic competition in a variety of sports. All Live Oak students in Grammar 4 through Grammar 6 are required to participate in at least one team sport as well as the school track meet. Exemptions to this rule may be granted by the Athletic Director and only after careful review. Logic and Rhetoric students are not required, but are strongly encouraged, to participate in at least one team sport each year. Logic and Rhetoric students who do not choose to play a team sport must meet their yearly physical education credit requirement through Live Oak’s PE classes. Live Oak’s athletic teams participate in local and state school competitions. Athletics includes team, individual, and lifetime sports for boys and girls in Grammar Four and up. The Athletic Department will train students how to honor and glorify God in athletics and to challenge them to strive for excellence as they live purposefully and intelligently in the service of God and man. The cornerstone of the Athletic Program is team sports, which provide a framework that acknowledges the primary importance of academics as well as the need for other co-curricular programs. Therefore, the merit of athletics lies in:

  1. Building Christ-like character and developing servant leadership skills while cultivating the physical and mental development and discipline requisite to participating successfully in athletics.
  2. Influencing peers, family, and community relationships by an example of Christian sportsmanship.
  3. Making a commitment to a team above one’s self and working together as part of a team with shared goals and objectives as a basis for developing a lifetime skill.
  4. Understanding goal setting and the importance of a strong work ethic, learning skills and strategies, how to prepare and train for competition and how to compete in athletic contests.

Live Oak Classical School seeks to develop young men and women who excel in all areas of life, including athletics. Being an athlete does not simply mean wearing a uniform and attending practices and games. Being a member of a team means committing yourself to a common goal. Live Oak athletes will be ambassadors of their team, their school, and more importantly, of God. Therefore, we believe athletics should encourage the positive attributes of sportsmanship, teamwork, commitment, dependability, selflessness, loyalty, good work ethics, and self-discipline.

All students in Grammar Four through Grammar Six are required to participate in one team sport that is offered to their grade as well as in our school track meet. Logic and Rhetoric students may choose to not be on a team sport but are strongly encouraged to participate.
