The Value of Classical Education
Classical education is a highly effective way to educate, but it is not an inexpensive way. Well-trained and talented core teachers, expert elective and language teachers bring to the classroom a passion to see students flourish through living history projects, engaging field trips, and Shakesperean drama. In addition, our students:
- delight in a variety of art mediums, creating pastels in the style of Degas or faux Jackson Pollocks in the parking lot;
- are enriched by outdoor challenges like trips overnight to the global village at the Heifer Project;
- grow from competing in Falcon athletics, including six-man football;
- are advantaged by studying Spanish or Latin starting in Kindergarten;
- are reading the narrative story of the Bible while learning the four cardinal virtues; and
- enjoy hosting a pond eco-system in their classrooms.
This experiential learning comes at a premium, and while the bulk of Live Oak’s operational dollars comes from tuition, tuition alone is not sufficient to cover the cost of such a rich education. Similar to other private schools across the nation, Live Oak strives for excellence by raising annual funds to bridge this gap between tuition income and budgeted needs.
The appeal of the Christian and Classical education offered at Live Oak has continued to grow as evidenced by our steady enrollment and expanded programs offering Junior Kindergarten through Grammar, Logic and Rhetoric schools.
No candy bars or wrapping paper here
Live Oak, unlike other schools, has purposed to generate the necessary annual funds without the traditional fundraising activities and programs which can distract from our educational efforts. Students won’t be coming home with chocolate bars or wrapping paper to sell.
Instead, we simply ask parents, families and friends to join others in the support of Live Oak through the Acorn Society. The successful efforts of the Acorn Society have demonstrated that this straight forward plan is a viable course for raising the necessary budget supplement. Funds raised through the Acorn Society go to support faculty and staff salaries and benefits, the unique programs and activities at Live Oak as well as funds necessary to make scholarships available to students with need.
We invite you to consider giving a significant gift this year to the Acorn Society. Each and every contribution helps Live Oak attain its goal of 100% participation by all of the Live Oak family in our annual appeal. Participation by families, friends, faculty, and staff is an important external and internal indicator of a community’s support for its mission.
Payments to the Acorn Society can be made by phone (714-1007) or in the office. The easiest way to make a significant gift to the Acorn Society is to divide your gift over the school months through an auto withdrawal, the same way tuition payments are set up. Forms for auto withdrawal are available in the office.
