Posted by Brummeler AliciaWelcome back from, I hope, a relaxing Spring Break! The fourth quarter is here! Here’s what is happening the week of Mar. 15th-19th:
Bible: We will begin the letter to the Romans this week.
Spelling/Vocabulary: We began a Wordly Wise lesson prior to Spring Break, and will finish the lesson this week. The quiz will be lesson 16E.
Grammar: Our Grammar Guru work will continue with verb tenses. The students will have a grammar check-up over the material we have learned later in the week.
Literature: The students will review the poem “Jabberwocky” which we memorized in January to share with our grandparents on Friday. I will also be reading selections from A Midsummer Night’s Dream to prep the students for the Logic play on Thursday. Our read aloud for this quarter is The Last Battle by C.S. Lewis. I look forward to sharing this novel with the students.

Mathematics with Mr. Graham

Congratulations to everyone involved with the The Pirates on Penzance. You all should be very proud of the hard work you put in, for it certainly paid off.
We are moving onto our next unit this week. It is a bit of a shift from our last few, as we are starting a stretch of chapters which focus on geometry, the mathematics of space and shapes. This first unit is all about circles. We are going to get a chance to use compasses to measure and make circles, and to discover for ourselves the rules regarding the perimeters and areas of circles. It is a different sort of mathematics that is enjoyed in a different way.
The last few articles from the New York Times have taken us up through addition, multiplication and subtraction. There is one basic operation left, and it sure is an oddball. Find out why at #4 – Division and Its Discontents.
