Literature/Composition March 1-5

Dear Students,

February has flown by! This week we find ourselves in the month of March, and with it comes some time to rest and rejuvenate. Before you gear up for Spring Break, buckle down for one last week of work:

Homework due Monday: Wordly Wise A-C of Lesson 16. By now you should have turned in both Body Paragraphs 1 and 2, and already revised #1.

We will read the final act, Act V, of Macbeth this week. We will also continue working on our sonnets and History Fair essays. Our goal for this week is to have ALL our body paragraphs written and revised before spring break. We can do it! Body paragraph 3 is not due until Tuesday.

Expect to work on your punctuation this week, and we will have our usual vocabulary quiz on Tuesday.

We will continue our study of parabolas this week.  Instead of just sketching graphs, we will become more exact by plotting points.  We will use our graphs to solve word problems involving maximums and minimums.

Week of 3/1-3/5

Wow, its hard to believe that Spring Break is almost here.  We are going to have a short test over chapter 8 on Tuesday.  Naturally, we are going to have a chance to review on Monday.  We will spend the rest of the week using the tools of the old geometers: compass and straightedge.  Using only these simple tools we are going to construct all sorts of geometrical things.  It should be a lot of fun!

The last few articles from the New York Times have taken us up through addition, multiplication and subtraction.  There is one basic operation left, and it sure is an oddball.  Find out why at #4 – Division and Its Discontents.

Week of March 15-19

Quiz: No quiz this week due to the play performance and Grandparent’s Day.

The structure of Latin III will be different for the rest of the year, with our focus primarily on translating excerpts of primary Roman texts, otherwise known as ”real Latin”.  Daily homework will consist of short translation passages or grammar sheets that guide students through the structure and syntax of a previously translated passage.  It is more imperative than ever for students to keep up with their homework assignments as we will be gradually working our way through larger passages.

Extra Help: Don’t forget about the online exercises found at www.PHSchool.com.  Use the web code found on the first page of whatever chapter you’re currently working on.
