Dear Logic and Rhetoric Parents,

In our Student Life meeting last Tuesday night, we found that many of you would like an opportunity to sit down with your child and an administrator in order to discuss Fine Arts, Athletics, clubs and other academic programs at Live Oak. Mrs. Moffatt, Mrs. Still and Mr. Goff would like to schedule fifteen minute meetings with you and your student so that we may discuss possible options for next year. We will try to develop those programs that you want for your child in-line with the school vision. On Friday, May 14th, we will be available from 9am-11:30am and 1pm-2pm for meetings. Beginning on Monday, May 17th and Wednesday 19th, we will offer times during the school day and early evening to meet with you. Please email office@liveoakclassical.com with convenient days and times to meet with an administrator.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you soon,

Alison Moffatt, Carolyn Still and Casey Goff

Advanced Latin students may consider taking the SAT II Latin subject exam. Some universities offer credit by exam including the SAT II. Baylor, for instance, will give credit for Latin I, II, III, and IV based on the score earned on the SAT II Latin exam. The best time to take a SAT II exam is as soon as possible after the subject of interest is completed. SAT II exam dates are posted on: www.collegeboard.com/testing/. Click on “calendar” to find the date that works for you and register. To find out about other universities’ credits given by exam, visit their website or collegeboard.com.

Visit http://sat.collegeboard.com/register/sat-dates to find the 2010/11 dates for testing.

Finally, MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR SUMMER BREAK!

Remember to READ from a variety of genres. And read, read, read! You may consider spending a designated time everyday preparing for the PSAT, SAT, or ACT. The remuneration for such efforts could be outstanding.

When traveling this summer, why not visit a college campus or two?

Tuesday: Quiz over lines 1-9 of “Pilate the Roman Governor…” and the Apostle’s Creed. Remember that you need to be ready to work quickly to complete the quiz. I will NOT include all 9 lines, but will pull some sentences from this section. Make certain to study the word list for these lines and to go over your translation. I will give you 5 minutes with your dictionary to look up some words, but if you can’t recognize the stems of the words, the dictionary won’t help. Memorize as much of the new vocabulary as possible, so that your 5 minutes will be double-checking rather than panicking. Also on Tuesday, you need the word list and/or translation of the two brief passages on Paul, “Paul Appels to His Rights…” and “Paul Appeals to Caesar.” When looking up words, remember to first look at the words glossed in the footnotes to save time.
