Community Spotlight: Doug Dwyer Wins Albert Schweitzer Leadership Award

Live Oak father Doug Dwyer was recently recognized by Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) as a role model to high schoolers; this organization exists to inspire young students to make a positive difference in their communities. HOBY hosts annual programs throughout the nation with service-learning experiences and leadership trainings, all aimed at equipping high school to improve the lives of others. Founded in 1958, HOBY’s influence reaches wide with over 450,000 alumni and more than 10,000 annual participants. For over five decades, HOBY has inspired high schoolers across the United States to be agents of positive change through effective and compassionate leadership.

Mr. Dwyer will be one of three leaders recognized later this year at the Leadership Awards Dinner in Dallas, Texas. This dinner takes place every year to honor leaders from diverse fields of work who exemplify the values of HOBY to youth across the nation. Past honorees include Dolores and Bob Hope, President and Mrs. Gerald Ford, and George H. Bush. Of the three leaders being honored at the event, Mr. Dwyer is the sole recipient the Albert Schweitzer Leadership Award. The award is the highest honored bestowed by HOBY, presented to an individual who is distinguished in servant-leadership. As the president a& CSO of Dreammaker Bath & Kitchen and parent of Live Oak Grammar student, Mr. Dwyer continues to be an exemplar to the Waco and Live Oak community.
