Faculty Spotlight: Work as Ministry with Chantal Flynn

Chantal Flynn is the Office Manager for Live Oak’s Logic and Rhetoric Schools. Mrs. Flynn greets each student, staff member and guest who walks into Live Oak with a joyful smile; you cannot walk into Live Oak’s upper school without a friendly greeting from her. Part of that is because Mrs. Flynn sees her work as less of a job and more of a ministry.

Mrs. Flynn loves being able to use her gifts and experience to meet the needs of the school. Some of these gifts include staying organized and being able to multitask. While managing the many logistics and schedules of the school, Mrs. Flynn prioritizes connecting with those around her. When asked what she loves about her work, she replied “being in relationship with all those categories of people I serve.” Mrs. Flynn loves being able to care for Live Oak’s students, teachers, parents, and administrators in a variety of ways.

With two children at the school, the Flynn family is deeply invested in the community. Chantal’s husband, Carl Flynn, serves as assistant coach for Varsity volleyball in addition to his full-time role at Baylor. As both a Live Oak parent and staff member, Mrs. Flynn is grateful for the school’s approach to education. She comments that Live Oak “equips our students with skills for life.” While this begins with critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills, it is all with the goal of helping to form the whole person. “It’s more than just getting students across the [graduation] stage. We’re looking at the student, the person, and who they are becoming.” Now in her seventh year working at Live Oak, Mrs. Flynn helps the school to achieve exactly that.
